Ramallah: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates welcomed a new set of sanctions announced by the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, France, New Zealand, and Norway. These sanctions target individuals and entities involved in financing and supporting colonist attacks against Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency, the ministry lauded these sanctions as a pivotal step aligning with the principles and laws upheld by these countries, emphasizing their international commitments. It highlighted that international law is a binding obligation, not mere political rhetoric, and condemned colonial settlement activities as illegal and a threat to Palestinian rights and regional stability.
The ministry pointed out that daily assaults on Palestinian citizens, their property, and holy sites are part of a broader Israeli policy of settlement expansion and land seizure, supported by the occupation army. It urged for more decisive international actions to hold those accountable, including the extremist occupation government.
In addition, the ministry welcomed international positions that affirm the illegality of colonial settlements and cautioned against economic engagements with settlements on occupied land. It regarded these stances as essential in line with international law and relevant UN resolutions.
The ministry called on the global community to intensify sanctions on the colonial settlement system, holding the occupation government responsible for colonist crimes, and banning settlement product dealings in world markets. It also pushed for measures to protect Palestinians and ensure adherence to international resolutions, aiming to end the occupation and establish an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
