Cairo:A Fatah Central Committee delegation updated Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy on recent political developments and ongoing efforts to alleviate the suffering of Palestinians.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, the delegation comprised Jibril Rajoub, Secretary-General of the Fatah Central Committee, former Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh, Muhannad Al-Aklouk, Palestine's Permanent Representative to the Arab League, and Tamer Al-Tayeb, First Counsellor of the Palestinian mission. Ambassador Fayed Mustafa, Assistant Secretary-General of the Arab League and Head of its Palestine and Occupied Arab Lands Sector, also participated in the meeting held at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo.
The discussions included recent political and field developments, strategies to ease the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip, and ways to enhance the humanitarian response. The meeting aimed to support the State of Palestine and its institutions in maintaining unity among the land, people, and political system.
Efforts to consolidate the Gaza ceasefire, facilitate humanitarian aid, and rebuild the region were also addressed. The talks emphasized backing a political process grounded in international legitimacy, aiming to end the occupation and achieve an independent Palestinian state.
The meeting also tackled obstacles imposed by the occupation on holding Palestinian elections, underscoring the need to support democratic processes to unify the Palestinian political system. Additionally, it discussed the critical situation in the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, ongoing colonist attacks, withheld Palestinian funds, and strategies to protect the Palestinian national project.
President Mahmoud Abbas and the Palestinian leadership sent greetings to the Arab League Secretary-General, thanking him for his support of the Palestinian quest for legitimate rights.
The Arab League Secretary-General highlighted the importance of Palestinian national unity and the preservation of the Palestinian cause foundations. He reiterated the Arab League's support for the Palestinian people's resilience and their struggle during this challenging period, advocating for the two-state solution.
