Ramallah: The head of the media committee for Fatah's Eighth General Conference announced that voting for the movement's Central Committee and Revolutionary Council commenced at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. This voting process, which is set to continue until 4:00 p.m., is taking place simultaneously across all designated conference locations.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Sabri Saidam, speaking to Palestine TV, indicated that the counting process will begin immediately after the conclusion of voting. The process will first address ballots for the Central Committee, followed by those for the Revolutionary Council. Preliminary results are expected to be announced shortly thereafter, with a session scheduled to address appeals and resolve any issues if necessary. A final meeting with conference participants is set for Sunday to declare the official results.
Saidam emphasized that the electoral process was meticulously planned, with no elements left to chance. The logistical committee organized preparatory exercises ahead of the elections to ensure a smooth process. Detailed explanations of the voting procedure were provided through live briefings, video materials, and AI-generated visual demonstrations. In addition, field training was conducted for staff responsible for overseeing the elections.
The conference, which commenced on Thursday, was attended by President Mahmoud Abbas, ambassadors and diplomats accredited to the State of Palestine, religious figures, representatives of Palestinian factions and national forces, as well as civil society organizations. Approximately 2,580 members are taking part in the conference, with around 1,600 in Ramallah, 400 in the Gaza Strip, 400 in Cairo, and 200 in Beirut.
