Fatah Central Committee Supports Postponement of Legislative Elections

Ramallah:The Fatah Central Committee has expressed its support for the PLO Executive Committee's decision to delay legislative elections.

According to Palestine news and Information Agency, the decision was discussed during a meeting in Ramallah where the committee addressed the current political climate and field developments. These include escalating attacks by Israeli forces and settlers throughout the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and the severe humanitarian situation in Gaza, along with internal organizational matters within Fatah.

The Committee, with backing from President Mahmoud Abbas, stated the postponement was necessary due to ongoing Israeli actions against Palestinians, security issues, and obstacles preventing free and fair elections. It emphasized the need to ensure participation from Palestinians in Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Gaza. The decision also considered ongoing crimes by the occupation forces and settlers, and logistical issues.

The Fatah Central Committee highlighted the importance of continuing a comprehensive national dialogue with all Palestinian political factions. It stressed that these efforts should be given the necessary time to strengthen national unity and maintain the integrity of the land, the cause, and national decision-making.
