Ex-Prisoner Riyad Al-Amour Suffers Life-Threatening Complications Following Deportation to Egypt

Cairo: The Palestinian Prisoners Affairs Commission and the Palestinian Prisoners Society have reported a critical deterioration in the health of released and exiled Palestinian prisoner Riyad Al-Amour.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Al-Amour, who was deported to Egypt last year after his release from Israeli prisons, had been subjected to systematic medical neglect during his 23-year incarceration. He was released under the October 2025 ceasefire agreement. The organizations highlighted that Al-Amour's severe heart problems were exacerbated by a decade-long wait for a pacemaker replacement while in detention. His health further declined due to intensified abuse and torture during his final two years in prison.

The statement from the Commission and the Palestinian Prisoners Society revealed that Al-Amour had been pursued before his 2002 arrest and endured harsh interrogations, resulting in severe torture and the loss of hearing in one ear. They emphasized that many former detainees suffer from severe health issues due to medical neglect during their imprisonment, especially in the aftermath of the genocide.

The organizations hold the Israeli occupation accountable for the condition of Al-Amour and other released prisoners in poor health. They assert that medical neglect has historically been a tool used by the occupation to inflict physical and psychological harm on prisoners, slowly deteriorating their health.
