European Commission Allocates £202 Million to Support Palestinian Services

Brussels: The European Commission is enhancing its support to the Palestinian people by allocating a total of £202 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency in the Near East (UNRWA) and the Palestinian Authority under the Comprehensive and Multiannual Programme for Palestine's Recovery and Resilience.

According to European Union, £150 million has been allocated to support the Palestinian Authority in ensuring the delivery of key public services, including the payment of salaries of teachers, civil servants, and healthcare workers. This financial support is associated with the implementation of the reform agenda. UNRWA received a contribution of £52 million to support the delivery of critical services, including education, primary healthcare, and relief assistance to Palestinian refugees across the Gaza Strip, West Bank, and hosting countries such as Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria.

Commissioner for the Mediterranean, Dubravka Šuica, stated that the support to the Palestinian people remains steadfast. With the disbursement of £202 million to the Palestinian Authority and UNRWA, the European Commission reaffirms its unwavering political and financial commitment. This initiative is part of a broader EU package of assistance, underscoring continued backing of UNRWA's role as both humanitarian and development actor. The EU expresses deep concern about the humanitarian situation in Gaza and the worsening conditions in the West Bank, maintaining its commitment to a just and lasting peace, grounded in a negotiated Two-State solution.
