Erdogan Reaffirms Turkey’s Commitment to the Palestinian Cause Amid Rising Tensions

Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has declared that Turkey will persist in its robust defense of the Palestinian cause across all international platforms. This announcement was made during a joint press conference with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, following their discussions in Ankara. According to Union of OIC News Agencies, Erdogan emphasized Turkey's ongoing collaboration with Palestinian leaders to advance the two-state solution, involving both Palestinian and Israeli states. He criticized the Israeli government led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, accusing it of perpetuating genocide and engaging in illegal activities in the occupied territories of the West Bank and Jerusalem. Erdogan highlighted the escalation of occupation policies, forced displacements, and land seizures affecting Palestinians. Erdogan referenced United Nations data, noting that approximately 3,800 Palestinians were displaced in 2026 due to settler violence, demolitions, and forced evictions, with nearly 10 0 Palestinians killed. He described these actions as part of a systematic occupation strategy aimed at undermining the sovereign existence of a Palestinian state. He called for global, particularly Islamic, responsibility in supporting Palestine. The Turkish President expressed hope that the forthcoming legislative and presidential elections in Palestine would promote reconciliation and strengthen Palestinian unity. He reiterated Turkey's firm opposition to provocations altering the status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque and other holy sites. Erdogan accused Netanyahu's government of attempting to marginalize the Palestinian issue amid regional chaos and conflicts. Despite these challenges, Erdogan assured that Turkey would continue its unwavering support for an independent Palestinian state, based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. He criticized the Israeli administration's rigid stance on the Gaza Strip, which persists despite international efforts for resolution.
