Ramallah: The Eighth General Conference of Fatah is set to wrap up on Saturday with the announcement of the election results for the movement's new Central Committee and Revolutionary Council. This conference has been in session for three days, taking place in Ramallah with concurrent sessions held in the Gaza Strip, Cairo, and Beirut, involving approximately 2,580 members of the movement.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, voting for the new members of the Central Committee and Revolutionary Council began at 10:00 a.m. and is scheduled to continue until 4:00 p.m. This will be followed by the counting of votes and the announcement of the results before the conference's final statement is released.
Under the internal regulations of Fatah, the conference members are responsible for electing 80 members to the Revolutionary Council and 18 members to the Central Committee. However, the conference holds the authority to officially decide to alter these numbers. Nominations for the elections were opened at 10:00 a.m. on Friday and closed at 2:00 p.m., followed by the release of both preliminary and final candidate lists.
The conference sessions have proceeded in an organized manner, reflecting the movement's focus on ensuring the success of the conference and enhancing democratic participation within its leadership structures.
