Ramallah: Israeli colonist militias on Monday evening attacked the village of Burqa, east of Ramallah, according to local sources. They reported that armed colonists targeted the eastern part of the village, attempting to steal livestock.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Burqa and nearby villages have been experiencing repeated assaults by colonists, coinciding with an increase in colonial settlement expansion and land seizure activities in the region. The situation has been further exacerbated by ongoing colonist activities atop al-Asour Hill, where large areas of Palestinian-owned land are being leveled for settlement expansion.
The Wall and Colonization Resistance Commission (WCRC) highlighted that in August alone, Israeli occupation forces and colonists executed 2,030 attacks. Of these, 1,402 were carried out by occupation forces and 628 by colonists, primarily targeting the governorates of Nablus, Ramallah and al-Bireh, Hebron, Bethlehem, Jenin, and Jerusalem.
Violence perpetrated by colonists against Palestinians and their property has become a routine occurrence in the West Bank, with limited legal repercussions from Israeli authorities. The attacks often involve property and mosque arsons, stone-throwing, uprooting of crops and olive trees, and assaults on vulnerable homes.
Currently, approximately 1 million Israeli colonists reside in colonies within the West Bank and East Jerusalem, a practice deemed illegal under international law.
