Cabinet Warns of Intensified Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza Amid Israeli Restrictions

Ramallah:Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa has issued a call for intensified efforts by all government institutions to alleviate the suffering of citizens in areas under attack, particularly in the Gaza Strip. This directive was emphasized during the Cabinet's weekly session as the humanitarian situation continues to worsen with the onset of winter.

According to Palestine news & Information Agency – WAFA – English, the Cabinet has highlighted increased Israeli restrictions on international humanitarian organizations operating in Gaza. These restrictions are reportedly exacerbating the suffering of Palestinian citizens and hindering the delivery of essential humanitarian and relief assistance.

The Cabinet session also marked the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists. The Cabinet reiterated the need for accountability for war crimes, especially those against journalists, noting that 260 Palestinian journalists have been killed since the start of the conflict, with significant damage to media institutions in Gaza.

Furthermore, the Cabinet expressed serious concerns over UN report findings about the risk of ethnic cleansing in Gaza. The report comes amid Israeli plans to expand control over 70% of the Strip, leaving Palestinians to endure harsh conditions, including their fourth winter in makeshift shelters.

In the West Bank, violence by Israeli forces and settlers has reportedly resulted in 683 attacks over the past week. Meanwhile, the Cabinet adopted recommendations to support Palestinian resilience in Jerusalem and was briefed on efforts to stabilize commodity supplies and prices.

Several other decisions were made, including the operationalization of an oncology department in Qalqilya and approval of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education's organizational structure to enhance efficiency. The Cabinet also discussed the Alternative Care Strategy aiming to prioritize family-based care.

Additionally, two funding agreements were approved to support the Palestinian Judicial Institute, and an agreement concerning halal certificates with Indonesia was ratified to boost Palestinian exports.
