Jerusalem: The General Secretariat of the Arab League on Thursday condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by hundreds of Israeli colonists under the protection of Israeli police, and their performance of rituals inside its courtyards.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the secretariat's Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector issued a statement describing these actions as a blatant violation of the sanctity of the mosque, international law, and resolutions of international legitimacy. The secretariat expressed concern over the dangers posed by the continuation of such practices, which aim to alter the existing historical and legal status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque and impose a temporal and spatial division.
The secretariat emphasized that the entire 144-dunum area of Al-Aqsa Mosque is an exclusive place of worship for Muslims. It highlighted that the Jerusalem Endowment and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department is the competent authority responsible for administering the mosque in accordance with the existing historical and legal status quo.
The General Secretariat held Israel fully responsible for the violations and called for an end to the storming and provocations, urging respect for international law. It also appealed to the international community, including the UN Security Council, to assume its responsibilities and provide protection for the Palestinian people and their holy sites.
