Gaza City: Amnesty International has leveled serious allegations against Israel, claiming the state is committing genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The human rights organization released a report asserting that Israel “has committed and is continuing to commit genocide” in the region, emphasizing the systematic nature of these actions.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, the report, titled “You Feel Like You’re Not Human”: On the genocide committed by Israel against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, presents substantial evidence that supports these grave accusations. It details how Israel’s military operations have unleashed severe destruction in Gaza, with complete disregard for international laws and norms. The report accuses Israel of committing acts that contravene the Genocide Convention, including the killing of Palestinians, causing them significant harm, and imposing conditions meant to ensure their physical destruction.
Agnès Callamard, Secretary General of Amnes
ty International, emphasized the urgency of the findings, urging international intervention. She stated, “Our damning findings should serve as a wake-up call to the international community: this is genocide, and it must stop now.” She further called on nations supplying arms to Israel, notably the United States, Germany, and other European Union member states, to reconsider their actions and influence to halt the ongoing atrocities.
The report highlights the dire situation in the northern Gaza Strip, where residents face starvation, forced displacement, and continuous violence. The humanitarian crisis is exacerbated by heavy bombardment and severe restrictions on essential aid, leaving the population in dire straits.
Callamard pointed out Israel’s awareness of the catastrophic humanitarian conditions and its apparent neglect of international warnings and rulings. Despite legally binding decisions from the International Court of Justice, Israel has failed to allow necessary humanitarian aid into Gaza, furthe
r aggravating the crisis.
