Mogadishu:The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia has condemned claims made by Israel regarding the accreditation of an ambassador in Hargeisa and the establishment of an embassy on Somali territory.
According to Palestine news & Information Agency – WAFA – English, the Ministry stated in a press release that these actions, taken without the approval of the Federal Government of Somalia, violate Somalia's sovereignty, territorial integrity, and unity. The Ministry emphasized that such measures are null and void, having no legal effect.
The Ministry reiterated that Hargeisa and the Somaliland region are integral parts of the Federal Republic of Somalia. It highlighted that establishing diplomatic relations and missions requires the consent of the sovereign state, as outlined by the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. No unilateral actions can bypass this requirement or change the legal status of Somali territories.
The Ministry noted that these actions follow the illegal Israeli recognition in December 2025, which was rejected by several regional and international organizations, including the African Union, IGAD, the Arab League, and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). It raised concerns that such measures could exacerbate tensions in the already fragile region of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
Somalia has demanded that Israel immediately reverse these measures and called on countries and international organizations to reject them. The Somali government asserted its right to take all necessary diplomatic, political, and legal actions to protect its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The statement concluded by affirming that Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity are to be respected and that the unity of the Somali nation is non-negotiable.
