Jerusalem:The Israeli occupation authorities have compelled a Palestinian resident of occupied Jerusalem to demolish his own home in the town of Beit Hanina, located north of the city.
According to Palestine news & Information Agency – WAFA – English, the Jerusalem Governorate issued a statement indicating that the Israeli municipality forced Jihad Mutawir to demolish his home. The property, consisting of two apartments in the al-Marwaha neighborhood, belonged to Mutawir and his son and was demolished under the pretext of being built without a permit.
As a result of this demolition, more than seven individuals have been left without a home. The governorate further explained that Israeli occupation authorities frequently compel Palestinians, especially in occupied Jerusalem, to dismantle their own homes due to alleged permit violations. Those who resist face the threat of demolition by Israeli bulldozers and are charged high fees.
The Israeli municipality in Jerusalem reportedly refuses to issue building permits to Palestinians, yet simultaneously demolishes their homes or forces them to do so. This practice is part of a broader strategy aimed at forcibly displacing Palestinians from the city while expanding Israeli settlements in Jerusalem and its surrounding regions.
