Israeli Forces Bring Mobile Homes to Sanur Military Camp Amid Settlement Concerns

Sanur:Israeli occupation forces have transported mobile homes, known as caravans, to the evacuated Sanur military camp located along the road between Jaba' and Sanur, south of Jenin. This move comes amid ongoing land-leveling operations at the site, leading to concerns about the potential establishment of a new illegal colonial outpost.

According to Palestine news and Information Agency, the camp was originally evacuated in 2005. Tareq Ighbariyya, responsible for the colonial settlement file at the Jenin Governorate, highlighted that these actions signify a significant escalation, aiming to impose military control over the area. This could result in the seizure of more Palestinian land and the division of the Jenin Governorate into isolated 'cantons,' impacting the geographical links between Palestinian villages and communities.

Ighbariyya emphasized that establishing a new illegal colonial outpost could severely restrict access to agricultural land, preventing farmers from reaching their fields and threatening their livelihoods. This would have detrimental effects on the agricultural sector, potentially halting economic activity in affected areas.

He also warned of the repercussions for residents, particularly regarding their freedom of movement and access to land and workplaces. The increased isolation and geographical fragmentation of Palestinian areas could exacerbate economic and living challenges for residents.

These developments follow the Israeli Security Cabinet's approval on July 15 of a proposal to establish a new illegal colonial settlement adjacent to the former Sanur colonial settlement. This plan, referred to as 'Eastern Sanur' in Israeli planning documents, is considered illegal under international law, as reaffirmed by UN Security Council Resolution 2334.
