Israeli Forces Intensify Restrictions on West Bank Town

Beit Ummar:Israeli forces have enforced stricter movement restrictions on the town of Beit Ummar, located north of Hebron, further isolating it from surrounding areas.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, the Israeli forces employed a bulldozer to block all entrances and exits of the town with earth mounds. This action has effectively cut off the town's inhabitants from moving in or out.

These measures are part of a broader tightening of military control across the occupied West Bank, which intensified following the release of 90 Palestinian prisoners as part of the Gaza ceasefire that began on January 19, 2025. Restrictions have been further increased in the context of the ongoing Israeli-Iranian conflict, leading to increased isolation between cities and governorates through the use of military gates, barriers, and concrete blocks.

The Israeli occupation forces' actions coincide with attacks by Israeli settlers in the West Bank aimed at displacing Palestinians from their lands to establish illegal settlements. These settlements create divisions between Palestinian communities.

Israel maintains a complex system of 925 checkpoints and barriers in the occupied West Bank, significantly restricting the movement of approximately 3.4 million Palestinians in the region and East Jerusalem. This system includes a variety of checkpoints, road gates, earth mounds, and roadblocks, contributing to the long-standing military occupation and settler colonial project enforced by Israel.
