Israeli Colonists Perform Prayers in Historic Ottoman Tunnel Near Tulkarm

Tulkarm:A group of Israeli colonists entered the Ottoman-era tunnel known as 'Al-Kharq,' located east of Bal'a town, east of Tulkarm, and conducted Jewish prayers inside the site.

According to Palestine news and Information Agency, eyewitnesses reported that the colonists drove their vehicles into the area surrounding the tunnel, where they not only conducted prayers but also raised Israeli flags.

The tunnel, a significant historic landmark, dates back to the Ottoman period, during the reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid II from 1876 to 1909. It was constructed in the early 20th century as part of the Hejaz Railway project, intended to aid the movement of pilgrims and travelers between Palestine, the Levant, and the Hijaz.

Known as 'Al-Kharq' due to its passage through the mountain, the tunnel is recognized as one of Palestine's notable archaeological sites. It has been included on Palestine's tourism map as a site requiring attention, rehabilitation, and restoration.
