Ramallah:The Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) has condemned Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir for his actions involving Palestinian prisoner Hassan Salameh. Ben-Gvir was recorded inside Salameh's cell threatening to kill and execute him, a move PPS describes as part of a systematic policy by the Israeli regime, rather than an isolated incident.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency , the PPS highlighted that this video is one of many in which Ben-Gvir has been seen humiliating, torturing, and threatening prisoners. The organization views these actions as part of a broader strategy to target leaders within the prisoner movement, presenting this aggression as a political achievement.
The PPS expressed concern over the growing violence in Israeli jails, particularly against leaders, citing systematic policies such as solitary confinement, physical assaults, starvation, and denial of medical treatment as threats to the safety and lives of these prisoners. The organization warned against dismissing the videos as mere propaganda, suggesting they could lead to the targeting and elimination of prisoner movement leaders.
The PPS accused Israeli authorities of using prisoners for political gain, noting a more dangerous shift towards public threats of murder and execution. The organization holds the Israeli authorities fully responsible for the safety of Hassan Salameh and other prisoners, urging international entities to protect them and hold Israel accountable for its violations.
Ben-Gvir's actions, according to the PPS, are part of an ongoing system of oppression against prisoners, with a lack of international accountability posing increasing risks to their lives. Hassan Salameh, who has been imprisoned since 1996, has endured torture, solitary confinement, and limited family contact, highlighting the severe conditions faced by Palestinian prisoners.
