Ramallah: Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Varsen Shahin engaged in discussions with her Australian counterpart, Penny Wong, focusing on the latest political and field developments, as well as bilateral relations between the State of Palestine and Australia.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, during a phone conversation, the Australian minister expressed her country's support for a two-state solution and condemned Israel's colonial expansion and acts of violence by colonists. She highlighted Australia's recent measures against certain colonists involved in violent activities, particularly in the E1 area.
Minister Shahin appreciated Australia's stance and recognition of the State of Palestine, emphasizing the need to translate this recognition into practical actions that would support Palestinian state institutions and enhance political, development, and economic cooperation between the two nations.
The ministers also addressed the situation in the Gaza Strip, focusing on support for early recovery and reconstruction efforts. They underscored the importance of continued support for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and discussed enhancing trilateral cooperation among Palestine, Australia, and Indonesia, especially in development and capacity-building initiatives.
Both ministers agreed on the necessity of maintaining coordination and consultations to further strengthen Palestinian-Australian relations in a way that promotes the interests of both countries and supports peace and the two-state solution.
