Ramallah: Israeli occupation forces on Tuesday evening erected a checkpoint on the Yabrud-Silwad road, northeast of Ramallah, according to local sources. They reported that soldiers set up a checkpoint on the road, stopping Palestinian-licensed vehicles and checking passengers' IDs.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, a convoy of army vehicles raided the nearby village of Abu Falah, deploying throughout the village while tightening restrictions on the roads leading to it. The occupation forces have increased military measures across the occupied West Bank following the release of 90 Palestinian prisoners as part of the Gaza ceasefire that went into effect on January 19, 2025. These restrictions have been further intensified since the onset of the Israeli-Iranian war, isolating cities and governorates using military gates, barriers, and concrete blocks.
The Israeli military measures coincide with ongoing attacks by Israeli colonists across the West Bank. These actions aim to terrorize Palestinians and displace them from their lands to seize them and build illegal Jewish colonies that separate Palestinian communities. Israel severely restricts Palestinians' freedom of movement within the occupied West Bank through a network of approximately 898 fixed and flying checkpoints and gates. This includes 18 gates installed since the start of 2025 and 146 others set up following the events of October 7, 2023, along with settler-only roads and over 200 military bases.
Closures and other measures taken under the guise of security are intended to entrench Israel's 59-year-old military occupation of the West Bank and its settler colonial project, enforced with routine and frequently deadly violence against Palestinians.
