Cairo: President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Cairo this afternoon for a two-day official visit to Egypt. President Abbas was received at the presidential terminal of Cairo International Airport by Egyptian Minister of Agriculture Alaa Farouk, Egypt's Ambassador to Palestine Bassem Abdel Hadi, Charg© d'Affaires of the Palestinian Embassy in Egypt Ambassador Naji al-Naji, as well as officials from the Palestinian Embassy, the Palestinian Mission to the Arab League, and the Palestinian Consulate General in Alexandria.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, on Wednesday, President Abbas is scheduled to hold a summit with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi at the Ittihadiya Palace. The leaders are set to discuss the latest developments concerning the Palestinian cause, along with several Arab and international issues of mutual interest. This planned summit follows the two sides' commitment to continued coordination and consultation on developments in Palestine.
The visit is part of ongoing Palestinian-Egyptian consultation and coordination, focusing on efforts led by Egypt, in cooperation with regional and international partners. These efforts aim to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people, support the reconstruction of areas impacted by the ongoing conflict, and mobilize efforts to end the Israeli occupation of Palestinian land and establish an independent State of Palestine with East Jerusalem as its capital.
During his visit, President Abbas is also expected to meet with Arab League Secretary-General Nabil El-Fahmy at the league's headquarters. The President is accompanied by a delegation including Vice President and Deputy Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) Executive Committee Hussein al-Sheikh, Palestinian National Council Chairman Rawhi Fattouh, Fatah Central Committee member and General Intelligence Service chief Majed Faraj, Presidential Adviser for Diplomatic Affairs Majdi al-Khaldi, and Charg© d'Affaires of the Palestinian Embassy in Egypt Naji al-Naji.
