Gaza: The Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs on Sunday condemned the continued incursions by extremist settlers into Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif, including the latest incursion carried out under the protection of Israeli occupation police.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the ministry stated that these incursions, the restrictions imposed on worshippers entering the compound, and the provocative practices inside Al-Haram Al-Sharif constitute a violation of the historical and legal status quo and a provocation. Fuad Majali, the ministry spokesperson, reaffirmed Jordan's rejection and condemnation of these actions and the facilitation by Israeli occupation police.
Majali emphasized that these practices violate international law and international humanitarian law and are an attempt to impose new realities at Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif. He stressed that Israel has no sovereignty over occupied Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites and warned of the consequences of continued violations.
He called on the international community to require Israel, as the occupying power, to halt its violations and practices against Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and to end all measures restricting worshippers' access to Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif.
Majali reiterated that Al-Aqsa Mosque is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims, and the Jerusalem Awqaf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, under Jordan's Ministry of Awqaf, is the legal authority over the administration of all affairs of Al-Aqsa Mosque/Al-Haram Al-Sharif.
