Gaza: Jordan today condemned the Israeli authorities' raid and forced eviction of the UNRWA-run Kalandia Training Centre in occupied Jerusalem, describing the action as a blatant violation of international law and the immunities and privileges afforded to the United Nations and its agencies, according to Jordan's Petra news agency.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Jordanian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ambassador Fouad Majali stated that Jordan firmly rejects Israel's continued systematic targeting of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). This includes measures aimed at restricting its operations and undermining its essential role.
Majali emphasized that such measures violate international law as well as the advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in October 2025. This opinion affirmed Israel's obligation to facilitate UNRWA's work in the occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem.
He highlighted that the Israeli measures are part of the policies pursued by Israel's extremist government and its unlawful actions in the occupied West Bank. These actions specifically target UNRWA's presence and its symbolic role in safeguarding Palestinian refugees' right to return and compensation under international law, particularly under UN Security Council Resolution 194.
Majali warned of serious consequences resulting from Israel's actions against UNRWA and its facilities, given the essential services the agency provides to Palestine refugees, which cannot be replaced.
He called on the international community to assume its legal and moral responsibilities by opposing Israeli measures and practices targeting UNRWA. Furthermore, he urged for political and financial support to be provided to the agency to continue delivering essential services to Palestine refugees across its five fields of operation, in accordance with its UN mandate.
