Gaza: The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) today facilitated the transfer of 35 released detainees from the Kerem Shalom crossing to Nasser Medical Complex in Gaza, enabling their communication and reunification with their families.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, since 2023, the ICRC has facilitated the transfer of more than 2,700 detainees who were released and transferred in this manner. The organization has been unable to access detainees held in Israeli detention facilities since October 2023, emphasizing the urgency of being informed about the fate and whereabouts of all detainees and the necessity of being granted access to them.
The ICRC highlighted that under international humanitarian law, detainees must be treated humanely, provided with appropriate detention conditions, and allowed to communicate with their families. The organization noted that many Palestinian families are anxiously awaiting any news about their detained loved ones, expressing concern about their health and safety.
The ICRC continues its dialogue with the Israeli authorities, aiming to resume visits to all protected persons held in Israeli detention facilities.
