Hebron: Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Hani Al-Hayek emphasized the importance of national efforts led by the ministry to monitor and protect archaeological and historical sites across Palestinian governorates, particularly those facing direct threats from the Israeli occupation and terrorist colonists.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency, Al-Hayek highlighted the need to reinforce the presence of these sites on the Palestinian tourism map and safeguard them from various risks. His remarks came during an inspection tour of several archaeological and historical sites in the towns of Al-Karmel, Yatta, and Beit 'Amra in the Hebron Governorate.
The tour covered the Qasr Al-Karmil archaeological site, Qisarya site, Khirbet Umm Al-Amad, and Khirbet Beit 'Amra. During the visit, Al-Hayek assessed the condition and needs of the sites, discussing ways to preserve and develop them while utilizing their archaeological and historical assets.
He stated that Palestine is home to numerous unique archaeological sites that are integral to its history and national identity. The ministry is working with local authorities and community representatives to protect and develop these sites within available resources, aiming to rehabilitate them as visitor-friendly destinations that attract citizens, visitors, and tourists.
Al-Hayek added that transforming archaeological sites into vibrant tourist destinations not only boosts tourism and stimulates the local economy but also aids in protecting and preserving these sites by strengthening the local community's presence and increasing national attention towards their protection.
