Qalandiya Camp Assault Highlights Systematic Targeting of Palestinian Refugees

Gaza: The Jerusalem Governorate stated that the Israeli assault on Qalandiya refugee camp, north of occupied Jerusalem, is part of a systematic policy targeting Palestinian refugee camps and the refugee issue, alongside measures aimed at undermining the role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Governorate released a statement on Thursday highlighting that these developments in Qalandiya camp are occurring amidst rapid settlement expansion in the area. Efforts are underway to open the settlement road known as Road 45 and link it to the tunnel beneath the former Jerusalem International Airport. The Governorate warns that this will fragment Palestinian geography and isolate Jerusalem from its central West Bank surroundings.

The statement further cautioned that such measures aim to create conditions conducive to advancing major settlement projects, consequently altering the demographic and geographic character of the area. This would effectively separate Jerusalem from its Palestinian surroundings to the north.

The Governorate called for urgent international action to halt Israeli violations and protect Palestinian refugee camps and the refugee issue, emphasizing that these are essential components of the Palestinian people's inalienable rights.
