Gaza: The Palestinian Presidency condemned the ongoing Israeli assault on Qalandiya refugee camp and warned of the consequences of Israel's continued comprehensive war against the Palestinian people and the risks it poses to the entire region.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Presidency issued a statement condemning the actions carried out by the Israeli army against Palestinians. These actions include raids, arrests leading to the detention of 50 citizens, demolition of homes and commercial shops, destruction of property, home invasions and vandalism, and preventing ambulance crews from performing their humanitarian duties. The siege imposed on the camp was described as a blatant violation of international law and international conventions.
The Presidency affirmed that the assault on Qalandiya refugee camp forms part of a systematic Israeli plan targeting all Palestinian refugee camps. The campaign allegedly began with operations in the Jenin, Tulkarm, and Nur Shams camps and involves continued raids, destruction, forced displacement, and military sieges, which prevent tens of thousands of Palestinians from returning to their homes.
The statement noted that these measures aim to erase the refugee issue and target Palestinians' national presence and historical rights guaranteed by international legitimacy. The Presidency added that this dangerous escalation coincides with the ongoing Israeli war of destruction, starvation, and displacement against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, reflecting the Israeli government's determination to continue policies of aggression, killing, displacement, and destruction to impose realities by force and undermine any opportunity for peace and stability in the region.
The Palestinian Presidency held the Israeli government fully responsible for the ongoing crimes and violations, warning that such policies, which reject international law and international legitimacy, could push the region toward a wider escalation.
The Presidency renewed its call on the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to assume its responsibilities and take immediate action to stop the Israeli assault on Palestinians in Gaza, who continue to face siege, starvation, and daily killings. It also called for an end to escalating Israeli attacks in the West Bank, including occupied East Jerusalem, and urged the international community to compel Israel to halt demolitions, displacement, and military raids; implement relevant international resolutions, including UN Security Council Resolution 2334; and accelerate the implementation of the second phase of the ceasefire agreement.
The Presidency stressed the need to end the daily killing of Palestinians, address the humanitarian catastrophe, and open a political path based on international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative, leading to ending the occupation and realizing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
