Released Palestinian Detainee Alleges Torture in Israeli Custody

Gaza: Released Palestinian detainee Rizq Shakarneh, 47, from the town of Nahhalin, west of Bethlehem, said he suffered fractures and multiple injuries as a result of torture during his detention in Israeli prisons.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Shakarneh stated that Israeli forces detained him following the demolition of homes and structures in the town. He recounted being held for eight days, during which he experienced severe physical abuse despite having pre-existing health issues and was denied necessary medical treatment.

Shakarneh reported that his condition had seriously deteriorated by the time of his release on Wednesday evening, leaving him unable to stand or move. Upon release, he was immediately taken to a hospital after experiencing severe pain throughout his body and chest, which prevented him from sleeping.

Medical examinations and CT scans, as narrated by Shakarneh, revealed fractures to his ribs, bruises, and multiple injuries to his head and other parts of his body, which he attributed to severe beatings and abuse while in custody. He also mentioned that his beard was forcibly shaved and that he was subjected to systematic starvation throughout his detention.
