Jerusalem: Israeli authorities issued and renewed administrative detention orders against 39 detainees, the Commission of Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) said on Wednesday. The period of detention varied between three and six months.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, in a joint statement, the commission and PPS noted that Israel continues to escalate the use of administrative detention under the pretext of possessing a 'secret file.' This practice has been a point of contention, drawing criticism from various human rights organizations.
The report further highlighted that the number of administrative detainees had reached 3,376 as of last May. Administrative detention allows for the imprisonment of individuals without trial, based on undisclosed evidence, which has been a controversial aspect of Israeli security policy concerning Palestinians.
