International Allies Urge Israel to Cease Settlement Expansion and Address Settler Violence

London: A coalition of countries including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, and the Netherlands, along with Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, has jointly called on Israel to halt its colonial settlement expansion and ensure accountability for settler violence. This appeal was made in a joint statement urging the Israeli government to reconsider its current policies and practices.

According to Palestine news and Information Agency, the joint statement highlighted concerns over the deteriorating situation in the West Bank, noting that settler violence has reached unprecedented levels. The leaders emphasized that Israeli policies, particularly the continued expansion of settlements and the entrenchment of control, are jeopardizing regional stability and the feasibility of a two-state solution.

The statement underscored international law's stance on the illegality of Israeli settlements in the West Bank, with specific reference to the E1 area. It warned that settlement developments in this region could split the West Bank, constituting a significant breach of international law.

Furthermore, the statement advised businesses against bidding on construction tenders in E1 or other settlement areas, cautioning them about the legal and reputational risks of engaging in activities that could involve serious breaches of international law.

The coalition also urged the Israeli government to investigate allegations against its forces, respect the Hashemite custodianship over Jerusalem's Holy Sites, maintain historic status quo arrangements, and remove financial restrictions on the Palestinian Authority and its economy.

The statement firmly opposed any efforts, including those within the Israeli government, advocating for annexation and the forcible displacement of Palestinians. It reiterated a commitment to achieving a comprehensive peace based on a negotiated two-state solution, envisioning Israel and Palestine coexisting peacefully within secure and recognized borders.
