Ramallah: Prime Minister Dr. Mohammad Mustafa met on Wednesday with EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process, Christophe Bigot, alongside EU Representative to Palestine, Alexandre Stutzmann, to discuss ways to accelerate international efforts to implement UN Security Council Resolution 2803.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Prime Minister briefed Bigot on the latest political developments, emphasizing the escalation of Israeli attacks and measures in the West Bank, as well as ongoing settlement expansion. He also highlighted the severe humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip due to violations of the ceasefire agreement by Israeli forces and restrictions on humanitarian aid.
Mustafa discussed the economic and fiscal challenges resulting from Israeli policies, including the withholding of Palestinian tax revenues. He urged the European Union to enhance political and financial support to the Palestinian people and advocated for the release of withheld funds.
The meeting also covered discussions on the outcomes of the recent Ad Hoc Liaison Committee meetings and the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, held in Brussels. Preparations for the upcoming AHLC meeting were also reviewed.
Both parties explored ways to expedite international efforts for the implementation of relevant UN resolutions, enhance humanitarian efforts in Gaza and the West Bank, and facilitate the reunification of these regions under a unified legal system and legitimate authority.
Dr. Mustafa updated the EU envoy on the government's ongoing reform agenda, noting significant progress in governance, transparency, and public service quality. He expressed gratitude for the EU's support and highlighted the successful local elections as a positive step.
Christophe Bigot reaffirmed the EU's rejection of Israeli measures and settler violence in the West Bank, expressing support for efforts towards a two-state solution. He reiterated the EU's commitment to humanitarian and development assistance in Palestine and welcomed the democratic progress shown in the recent elections.
