Istanbul: Arab Parliament Speaker Mohammed Al-Yamahi has made an impassioned call for a unified international parliamentary response to address the escalating violations committed by occupying forces. He underscored the urgent need for every supportive voice and committed effort to uphold the rights of Palestinians, emphasizing that the Palestinian cause requires global attention more than ever.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Al-Yamahi delivered his remarks during the second meeting of the Parliamentary Group for Supporting Palestine, held in Istanbul. He praised the initiative of the Turkish Parliament Speaker in forming the group, viewing it as a significant step that reflects an acute awareness of the challenges facing the Palestinian cause. Al-Yamahi affirmed the Arab Parliament's dedication to playing a crucial and proactive role in this effort.
He highlighted the sensitive timing of the group's meeting amidst serious and swift developments concerning the Palestinian issue, which demand a resolute international response. Al-Yamahi detailed recent critical developments, such as the Israeli Knesset passing a law permitting the execution of prisoners, which he described as a serious violation of international humanitarian law. He also condemned the occupying authorities' aggressive colonial policies, including new expansion plans in the West Bank and violations against Islamic and Christian holy sites, particularly the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Al-Yamahi pointed out that these violations occur alongside the occupation's refusal to adhere to the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, exacerbating the severe humanitarian crisis faced by Palestinians. He emphasized that these developments place a dual responsibility on the international community to urgently act to protect Palestinian rights and to ensure the two-state solution remains viable for achieving peace.
He concluded by stressing that parliamentary diplomacy, as practiced by the group, is no longer a mere supplement but a vital tool in shaping global opinion, defending the Palestinian cause, and rallying international support for Palestinian rights.
