Amman: The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates has strongly denounced the recent approval by the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, of a law that imposes the death penalty on Palestinian prisoners. The Ministry has declared this move as a violation of international law and international humanitarian law.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Ambassador Fouad Majali, the official spokesperson for the Ministry, expressed the Kingdom's complete rejection and condemnation of what he described as a racist, discriminatory, and illegitimate law. He emphasized that the law contravenes international law rules that prohibit the imposition of control over occupied territories through legislation set by the occupying power.
Majali further stated that this legislation is part of a broader systematic Israeli policy aimed at undermining the Palestinian people's self-determination and their right to establish an independent Palestinian state on their national soil. This stance aligns with the two-state solution as a resolution to the ongoing conflict.
The ambassador also urged the international community to fulfill its legal and moral obligations by taking immediate and effective measures to prevent the implementation of this law. He called for international pressure on Israel to cease its invalid decisions and unilateral practices that target the Palestinian people and their presence in their homeland.
