Beirut: At least 11 people were killed, and 18 others injured in Israeli airstrikes on southern and eastern Lebanon, the country's official National News Agency (NNA) reported Friday, citing statements from the Health Ministry.
According to Anadolu Agency, NNA reported that two individuals lost their lives and eight sustained injuries in an Israeli airstrike on the town of Kfar Rumman. In another incident, the agency reported that an Israeli air raid on the Hawita al-Ghadir area at dawn resulted in the deaths of two people.
The agency further noted that an airstrike on a residential home in Saksakieh, a town in the Sidon district, resulted in four fatalities and injuries to eight more people, as per preliminary information. Additionally, in a separate strike, two people were killed, and a house was destroyed in the town of Zoutar al-Sharqiya in the Nabatieh region.
In eastern Lebanon, the broadcaster reported that one person was killed and two others were lightly injured when Israeli warplanes struck a house in the town of Bazaliyah, north of Baalbek, resulting in the destruction of the building.
Israel has intensified its operations in Lebanon with airstrikes and initiated a ground offensive in the south following a cross-border attack by Hezbollah on March 2. Lebanese authorities have reported that at least 1,116 people have been killed and 3,229 injured in Israeli attacks since the onset of hostilities.
The escalation is taking place against the backdrop of a joint US-Israeli offensive on Iran, which has resulted in more than 1,340 fatalities since February 28. In response, Tehran has launched drone and missile strikes targeting Israel and US bases in Gulf countries.
