No Rise in Off-Site Radiation After Attack on Iran’s Yellowcake Production Facility: UN Watchdog

Ardakan: No rise in off-site radiation was reported after a US-Israeli attack targeted a yellowcake production facility in Ardakan of Iran's Yazd province, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said on Friday.

According to Anadolu Agency, the IAEA has been informed by Iran that the Shahid Rezayee Nejad Yellow Cake Production Facility in Yazd province, also known as Ardakan, was attacked. The IAEA stated through US social media company X that there was no increase in off-site radiation levels reported, and that the agency is currently investigating the incident.

The IAEA Director General, Rafael Grossi, has renewed an appeal for restraint in military actions to prevent a potential nuclear incident, as reiterated by the agency. Iranian media reported the attacks on Ardakan earlier in the day, with initial assessments indicating that no radioactive materials were released beyond the site.

Hostilities in the region have escalated since the US and Israel launched a joint offensive on Iran on February 28, resulting in the death of more than 1,340 people, including then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. In response, Tehran has retaliated with waves of drone and missile strikes targeting Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Gulf countries hosting US military assets, causing casualties and infrastructure damage while disrupting global markets and aviation.
