Jerusalem: The Israeli military reported on Friday that an officer and a soldier were seriously injured during ground offensives in southern Lebanon. The army stated that the injuries occurred overnight during a military operation and both individuals were subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment.
According to Anadolu Agency, the announcement of these injuries came a day after the military disclosed that two soldiers were killed and six others wounded in the same region. On Thursday, Northern Command chief Maj. Gen. Rafi Milo indicated that the army would further expand its ground incursion in southern Lebanon, emphasizing the necessity to widen what has been described as a 'forward security zone.'
Since the initiation of the current offensive on March 2, the Israeli military has been conducting ground operations in southern Lebanon, with Hezbollah asserting its efforts to confront the advancing forces. The military has previously highlighted that four divisions, specifically the 36th, 91st, 146th, and 210th, are actively participating in the operation.
Israel's Channel 14 reported earlier that the army intends to extend its reach up to 8 kilometers (5 miles) into Lebanese territory, with the establishment of 18 military positions already underway. On Sunday, Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir pledged to intensify both ground operations and airstrikes against Lebanon.
Lebanese authorities have reported that since the onset of Israeli attacks on March 2, a total of 1,116 people have been killed, 3,229 others wounded, and over 1 million individuals displaced.
