Ramallah: Minister of Education Dr. Amjad Barham met with UNESCO Director-General Dr. Khaled Al-Anani to explore avenues for enhancing cooperation between the State of Palestine and UNESCO. The focus of the discussions was on supporting the Ministry's initiatives to reform the educational system and align Palestinian curricula with UNESCO standards.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Dr. Barham reiterated the Ministry's dedication, guided by President Mahmoud Abbas's directives, to uphold international obligations set forth in the National Reform and Development Program. He emphasized the ongoing efforts to improve the quality and sustainability of education in Palestine.
Dr. Barham also informed the UNESCO Director-General about recent Israeli violations affecting the Palestinian educational and cultural sectors. He highlighted incidents involving Israeli forces targeting campuses of Birzeit University and Al-Quds University, along with attacks on historical and cultural sites. These actions, he noted, threaten the educational rights and heritage of Palestinians.
The meeting also reviewed the Palestinian government's plans to enhance educational opportunities and update curricula to keep up with global advancements. Deputy Minister Dr. Nafieh Assaf and Ambassador Adel Attia, Palestine's Permanent Representative to UNESCO, were also present at the meeting.
