Gaza: The World Health Organization (WHO) announced on Thursday that it will launch a major health intervention in Gaza next week, focusing on restoring basic medical services for children who have been without routine care for nearly two years due to the war.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated on X that the organization, in cooperation with UNICEF and UNRWA, will begin providing routine vaccinations, screening for malnutrition, offering treatment, and monitoring growth for about 44,000 children across the Gaza Strip.
Ghebreyesus highlighted the importance of preserving the current ceasefire to ensure the safety and continuity of humanitarian operations, including reaching children who have been deprived of life-saving health services throughout the war.
As part of the initiative, WHO is rehabilitating 20 damaged or destroyed health facilities, increasing the number of service points where medical care can be delivered, and working to restore critical health infrastructure that was severely disrupted during the war.
