Gaza: Reports of more than 100 Palestinians, including women and children, killed overnight in Israeli airstrikes have been described as horrific by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Trk. The strikes targeted residential buildings, displacement tents, and schools across the Gaza Strip. According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Trk emphasized the importance of protecting civilians and civilian infrastructure under the laws of war. He stated that Israel must comply with its international humanitarian law obligations and is accountable for any violations. Trk expressed heartbreak over the timing of these killings, noting they occurred just as the people of Gaza, long-suffering, began to hope for an end to the relentless violence. He called upon all involved parties to act in good faith to implement the ceasefire and urged influential states to ensure compliance. Trk stressed the importance of not letting the opportunity for peace slip away, especially after two years of unimaginable suffering and near-total destruction in Gaza.
