Fatah Asserts PLO and State of Palestine as Sole Guardians of National Project

Ramallah: The Fatah movement emphasized on Saturday that recent statements from various Palestinian factions highlight that the true protector of a unified Palestinian vision is the adherence to national legitimacy, represented by the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) and the State of Palestine, as the sole framework capable of safeguarding the national project.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, Fatah issued a press statement stressing that unilateral policies and attempts to undermine national legitimacy will not succeed. Sovereignty over the land of the State of Palestine is the exclusive right of the Palestinian people and their legitimate institutions, necessitating a commitment from all parties to uphold this principle in practical terms.

The movement called on all Palestinian forces to unite around the leadership’s priorities since the onset of Israel’s war on the Palestinian people. These priorities include achieving a ceasefire, Israel’s full withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, ensuring humanitarian aid, restoring normalcy in the enclave, preventing displacement, and facilitating the exchange of prisoners. Fatah stated that this unified course should prevail over factional agendas that weaken the national position.

Fatah acknowledged the agreement to form an administrative committee of qualified figures to manage Gaza’s affairs temporarily, stressing its operation under the Government of the State of Palestine. Ignoring this framework, the movement warned, would deepen division and aid Israel’s goals of separating Gaza from the West Bank and Jerusalem, obstructing the realization of an independent Palestinian state.

The statement highlighted Israel’s actions undermining the Palestinian National Authority, such as withholding tax revenues, escalating settler terrorism, and pursuing annexation of Palestinian lands in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.

Fatah reiterated that Gaza’s security is the responsibility of official Palestinian security forces and any international presence should be limited to borders with a UN Security Council mandate that respects Palestinian sovereignty.

The movement rejected any form of guardianship over the Palestinian people, stating that international peace committees should only monitor ceasefire adherence, oversee reconstruction, and implement agreed plans without infringing on Palestinian independence.

On the issue of weapons, Fatah advocated for addressing it through a comprehensive national framework ensuring unity and stability while denying Israel pretexts for aggression.

Fatah stressed that achieving genuine national unity serving the Palestinian people’s interests is a national goal, requiring comprehensive dialogue based on solid foundations meeting the people’s aspirations and adhering to national constants.

The movement underscored the PLO’s recognition as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people, committing to its obligations and the unified Palestinian vision based on territorial and political unity within the State of Palestine.

Fatah concluded by affirming the Palestinian leadership’s commitment, under President Mahmoud Abbas, to consolidate the ceasefire, restore life in Gaza, and protect the independent Palestinian national decision within the framework of unified national legitimacy, preventing any party from undermining unity or compromising core principles.
