High-Level International Conference Advances Two-State Solution for Israel-Palestine Conflict

New york: The High-Level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and Implementing the Two-State Solution commenced on Monday evening at the United Nations headquarters. Co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, the meeting included participation from President Mahmoud Abbas via video conference, along with various heads of state, government leaders, and representatives from international and regional organizations. According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Saudi Arabia and France led the preparatory sessions for this significant conference during April and May 2025. The conference culminated in the adoption of the New York Declaration, endorsed by the General Assembly with a substantial majority of 142 votes. This declaration reaffirms international commitment to the Two-State solution, aiming to forge a pathway for lasting peace for Palestinians, Israelis, and the broader region. The statement from the Co-Chairs highlights the worsening situation in G aza, exacerbated by the intensifying Israeli ground offensive. The declaration seeks to provide an alternative to the persistent cycles of violence. The international community is urged to take concrete actions to implement the New York Declaration, with several UN Member States already making commitments. The conference noted the recognition of the State of Palestine by countries including Australia, Belgium, and the United Kingdom, and urged others to follow suit. Ending the conflict in Gaza and ensuring the release of hostages remain priorities, with calls for a ceasefire and humanitarian aid. The Co-Chairs committed to supporting a stabilization mission in Palestine, contingent on UN Security Council approval, and emphasized unifying Gaza with the West Bank under the Palestinian Authority. The statement also called for Hamas to disarm and transfer control to the Palestinian Authority. Reforms by the Palestinian Authority, such as the abolition of the prisoners' payment system and curriculum reforms, we re acknowledged. The conference encouraged the Israeli leadership to commit to peace, halt settlement activities, and end violence against Palestinians.
