New york: The United Nations General Assembly has approved a draft resolution endorsing the New York Declaration, aimed at implementing the two-state solution and establishing an independent State of Palestine. The resolution received support from 142 countries, while 10 voted against it and 12 abstained.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the State of Palestine expressed satisfaction with the wide-ranging support for the declaration and its annexes. This was described as a significant outcome of the High-Level International Conference on The Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France.
In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates commended Saudi Arabia and France for their leadership during the conference and their efforts in translating the declaration into a concrete action plan with defined political, economic, legal, and security tracks.
The ministry conveyed gratitude to all nations that sponsored, supported, and voted in favor of the resolution, thereby formalizing the New York Declaration as an official UN document. It urged member states to implement the conference outcomes and to pressure Israel, the occupying power, to halt its aggression, cease using starvation as a weapon of war, stop forced displacement, and release prisoners and hostages.
The statement further emphasized that all available measures should be utilized to end Israel's colonial occupation, protect the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, and ensure that the two-state solution remains the sole viable path to peace amid ongoing crimes, colonization, and aggression.
