Cairo: Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has announced the preparation of a comprehensive plan aimed at the early recovery and reconstruction of Gaza. This announcement was made during his address at the Virtual BRICS Summit, which was convened at the invitation of Brazil. The plan has garnered support from Arab, Islamic, and international partners, and asserts the feasibility of rebuilding Gaza while ensuring Palestinians remain in their homeland.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, President el-Sisi emphasized Egypt's intention to host an international conference focused on Gaza's reconstruction, contingent upon the establishment of a ceasefire. This conference, to be organized in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority and the United Nations, seeks to gather necessary support and funding to implement the reconstruction plan.
President el-Sisi also condemned ongoing Israeli military actions in Gaza, which have resulted in significant loss of life and severe humanitarian consequences. He criticized Israel's military operations as acts of terror that have exacerbated the humanitarian crisis to the extent that the United Nations has declared a state of famine in Gaza.
El-Sisi reiterated Egypt's strong opposition to any attempts to displace Palestinians and highlighted the country's commitment to the two-state solution. He also condemned Israeli efforts to impose sovereignty over the West Bank and criticized new settlement constructions that threaten to alter the demographics and legal status of occupied Palestinian territories.
In his address, President el-Sisi called on BRICS member states to support efforts to revive the two-state solution and to recognize the Palestinian right to an independent state along the pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital. He stressed that this would contribute to achieving lasting peace and stability in the Middle East.
