France to Recognize State of Palestine in Pursuit of Lasting Political Solution

Paris: France will recognize the State of Palestine out of its belief in a lasting political solution for the Middle East region, French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-No«l Barrot stated on Tuesday.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Barrot emphasized that France's decision is independent and in favor of both Israel's and the Palestinians' security. During a question-and-answer session at the National Assembly, he declared, "No one will dictate France's position. France will do it because France believes in a lasting political solution for the region."

Barrot also highlighted France's objective to unite countries that are willing to recognize Palestine as a state. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of negotiating a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and allowing the unimpeded entry of humanitarian aid to the civilian population of the Strip.
