LONDON: A British parliamentary committee has urged the British government to establish a timetable for recognizing an independent Palestinian state and to take necessary actions to ensure Israel’s adherence to international law.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, the British Parliament’s International Development Committee released a report addressing the humanitarian situation in Gaza, developments in the West Bank, and the conditions of displaced Palestinians. The report highlights significant civilian casualties and the destruction of infrastructure in Gaza due to Israeli attacks, emphasizing potential violations of international law as indicated by international court decisions.
The report further expressed concerns over the risk of Israeli military operations in Gaza potentially violating international humanitarian law, which could lead to accusations of genocide. It emphasized the importance of the British government announcing a timetable for recognizing an independent Palestinian state, noting that such recognition is vital for achieving lasting and sustainable peace.
