Georgetown: Guyanese President Irfaan Ali affirmed his country’s unwavering position in support of the Palestinian people’s inalienable rights during a formal reception for Presidential Advisor for International Relations, Riyad Malki, in the capital of Guyana, Georgetown. Malki is visiting the South American country to enhance bilateral relations, expand cooperation, and elevate Palestinian-Guyanese relations to a strategic partnership level.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, Malki conveyed a message of profound appreciation from President Mahmoud Abbas to President Ali, expressing gratitude for Guyana’s support of Palestinian rights in various regional and international forums. Malki also emphasized the interest in further developing the historic bilateral relations between the two nations.
In their discussions, Malki and President Ali explored mechanisms to implement and enhance cooperation programs in areas of mutual concern. These include development programs that serve both countries’ interests and initiatives to deploy specialized Palestinian experts to support Georgetown’s national development efforts.
The officials expressed their aspiration to implement the framework of strategic partnership and underscored the necessity of bolstering Palestinian-Guyanese cooperation in international forums. This is particularly crucial as Guyana currently holds the position of permanent secretary of the Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM).
The meeting concluded with a commitment to translating the Memorandum of Understandings (MOUs) signed between Palestine and Guyana into concrete programs and activities. These programs aim to cover sectors such as health, agriculture, housing, mining, and employment.
