Israeli Restrictions Lead to Spoilage of 20 Tons of Avocados at Karama Border Crossing.

Qalqilya: Israeli restrictions at the Karama border crossing, situated on the Palestine-Jordan border, have resulted in the spoilage of approximately 20 tons of avocados produced in the Qalqilya Governorate. The incident has raised concerns among local traders and farmers who rely heavily on the export of agricultural products for their livelihood. According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Mhammad Shreim, a local merchant, had made all necessary arrangements for exporting four truckloads of avocados to Jordan. Despite his preparations, Israeli authorities permitted only one truck to pass through the crossing, sending the remaining three trucks back. Shreim further explained that although the occupation later announced the reopening of the crossing for the other shipments, the process was delayed without any resolution. After three days of uncertainty, the trucks were returned to the packing facility in the town of Habla, located south of Qalqilya. Upon inspection of the returned goods, Shr eim discovered that approximately 20 tons of the nearly 70 tons of avocados had spoiled, resulting in an estimated financial loss of about 100,000 shekels. He has since held the Israeli authorities fully accountable for the damages incurred.
