The Mission’s Rule of Law section is in lead of EUPOL COPPS’ efforts to develop a cadre of better educated Palestinian Judges and Prosecutors, who can provide increasingly efficient and qualified legal remedies to the Palestinian people.
In pursue of this objective, the Mission supports the Palestinian Judicial Institute in its restructuring and in how it best accommodates the training needs of the High Judicial Council and the Attorney General’s Office.
To acquire first-hand know-how from similar European institutions, the Director and Deputy Director of the Palestinian Judicial Institute together with a Palestinian Chief Prosecutor, conducted a study trip to Stockholm, Sweden from 23 to 25 April, financed and organised by the Mission.
The Palestinian delegation visited the Swedish National Courts Administration, the Judicial Training Academy, the Training Department of the Prosecution Authority and the Svea Court of Appeal to learn how Sweden has organised its judicial and prosecutorial academies and to exchange experiences on training for judges, prosecutors and auxiliary staff. The study tour also included a visit to the Embassy of the Palestinian Authority in Stockholm.
