Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin stated Tuesday that the key to restoring peace in the Middle East region lies in implementing a two-state solution based on the United Nations resolutions and international law. ‘The key to restoring peace in the region is implementing a two-state solution, as outlined in UN Security Council and General Assembly resolutions,’ President Putin stressed as reported by Anadolu Agency (AA). He made his remarks at a ceremony for new foreign ambassadors in Moscow.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, Putin added that ‘Russia was actively working to prevent the Palestinian-Israeli conflict from expanding into a broader Middle Eastern war’, as he underscored that ‘Israel and Palestine can only achieve lasting peace through a path of reconciliation based on established international legal frameworks.’ Israel has proceeded with its genocidal offensive on the war-torn Strip in complete disregard of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), which ordered Isra
el in a legally binding decision to halt its military offensive in Rafah, which may violate its obligations under the Genocide Convention.
Israel has been waging a devastating war not only on Gaza since October 7, killing at least 43,391 Palestinians and injuring over 102,347 others, but also on Lebanon. Moreover, at least 10,000 people are unaccounted for, presumed dead under the rubble of their homes throughout the Strip. Palestinian and international organizations say that the majority of those killed and wounded are women and children.
The Israeli aggression has also resulted in the forceful displacement of nearly two million people from all over the Gaza Strip, with the vast majority of the displaced forced into the densely crowded southern city of Rafah near the border with Egypt – in what has become Palestine’s largest mass exodus since the 1948 Nakba.
