President Abbas discusses developments with UN Coordinator for Middle East Peace


RAMALLAH: President Mahmoud Abbas received today the United Nations Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, at the presidential headquarters in Ramallah.

During the meeting, President Abbas conveyed a verbal message to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, commending his efforts and emphasizing the need to continue his personal efforts and the UN’s endeavors to bring about an end to the ongoing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people.

President Abbas also called for the complete withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from the entire Gaza Strip, ensuring no annexation of land by Israel in Gaza, and boosting humanitarian and relief aid for the besieged enclave especially in the midst of the harsh weather conditions faced these days by the Palestinian people there.

The President praised the appointment of Ms. Sigrid Kaag as a special envoy for the UN Secretary-General to coordinate aid and reconstruction efforts in the Gaza Strip. He expressed hope that her efforts w
ould succeed in ensuring aid reaches all areas of Gaza, including the northern regions, and in initiating preparations for the reconstruction of what was destroyed by the occupation.

President Abbas reiterated the importance of further efforts to prevent the displacement of any Palestinians, whether from Gaza, the West Bank, or East Jerusalem. He called for an end to all attacks by the occupation forces and colonist terrorism in the West Bank and Gaza. Additionally, he emphasized the need for Israel to release all the withheld Palestinian tax funds.

In his message to the UN Secretary-General, President Abbas underscored the significance of Palestine gaining full membership in the United Nations with a decision from the UN Security Council.

He stressed the need for an international peace conference to ensure the end of Israeli withdrawal from the land of the State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy.

The President emphasized the i
mportance of enabling the State of Palestine politically and economically to fulfill its responsibilities towards the Palestinian people in Jerusalem, Gaza, and the West Bank.
